Electro-mobility for agriculture

Electromobility is increasingly on trend in agricultural and forestry operations. But before electrically driven tractors come into wide-scale use, smaller utility vehicles will conquer their market – vehicles like the aCar, which EVUM Motors will be presenting from November 10 to 16 in Hall 21, Stand C13 at the AGRITECHNICA fair in Hanover.

Regarding the total cost of ownership today electric utility vehicles like the EVUM aCar are already as much as 30 percent more cost-efficient than comparable vehicles with combustion engines. “This cost advantage goes even further when electricity from the owner’s private solar or biogas plant is used,” says Martin Šoltés, managing director and co-founder of EVUM Motors GmbH.

The aCar features an all-electric four-wheel drive. With a tare weight of 1100 kg it can transport loads of up to 1000 kg. The modular battery concept supports ranges of as much as 200 km. The top speed is 70 km/h. The robust electric motors and 48 volt technology keep maintenance costs low.

“In use for agriculture and forestry the aCar can also drive off-road, thanks to its four-wheel drive,” says Sascha Koberstaedt, the other managing director and co-founder of EVUM Motors GmbH, points out. “And since it is emission-free it can also easily be used in closed spaces such as greenhouses or storage barns.”

The versatile helper

Its modular design and high versatility make the robust and agile aCar the most economic and ecological solution for the widest variety of tasks. Accessories such as a trailer hitch, a winch or attachments like the “municipal triangle” expand the spectrum of possible uses, for example clearing snow in the winter.

The aCar is approved in vehicle class N1. “A normal passenger-car driver’s license is sufficient for these vehicles,” says Sascha Koberstaedt. “In addition, vehicles in this class are eligible for most of the tax rebates and purchase premiums in European countries. In Germany for example for the buyer’s premium under the German government’s electro-mobility subsidy program and for the announced special depreciations of 50 Percent.”

Series production begins in 2020

The latest model of the EVUM aCar has now become a versatile workhorse for the widest possible variety of tasks – not only for ecological agriculture, but also for conventional operation, for viticulture, fruit farming, forestry, maintenance of larger real estate parcels, parks and nurseries as well as for crafts and industry, in municipal uses and in demanding recreational applications.

EVUM Motors GmbH is currently setting up manufacturing facilities for the aCar in the Lower Bavarian town of Bayerbach bei Ergoldsbach. Series production is planned to begin in early 2020. The aCar can be pre-ordered immediately on the EVUM homepage.

Long-term goal: Worldwide use

Koberstaedt and Šoltés originally designed the aCar as a robust all-purpose vehicle for developing and emerging countries. This entailed extensive scientific investigations and practical tests in Europe and Africa. One product of this research was a close partnership with UNIDO, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, whose stand will feature the aCar at the AGRITECHNICA fair.

“The future buyer in Europe will most of all benefit from the ruggedness and streamlined, unembellished design,” says Martin Šoltés. “The low-maintenance electric drive and a focus on the essentials make the aCar not only sustainable, but also unbeatably economical.”

Accordingly, the production facilities in Lower Bavaria are only a first step. In the future the founders plan to apply the expertise gained there in local production facilities in their respective target markets. “Our objective is to establish small manufacturing units close to the customers so that we’re as sustainable as possible, even as early as in the production stage,” says Martin Šoltés. “This expansion will then provide more opportunities for further investors and partners to come on board.”
